Amapiano
DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sekowe, was born on November 15, 1987, is a South African DJ, record producer, singer and songwriter. He is known for his work across Amapiano, Afropop, house and Gqom.
He has worked with major African and international artists, including Wizkid, Drake, Black Coffee, Kabza De Small, Focalistic and Major Lazer. His production work on several hit songs helped him become one of South Africa’s well-known music producers.
DJ Maphorisa also founded BlaqBoy Music and became an important figure in the growth of Amapiano. His collaborations with Kabza De Small have produced several popular projects and helped take the South African sound to a wider global audience.
Over the years, he has received several award nominations and won recognition for his work, including African DJ of the Year at the Soundcity MVP Awards.
