Rapper and actor 50 Cent has taken on a new challenge in Hollywood, playing heavyweight boxer Balrog in the live-action Street Fighter movie, which arrived in theaters on October 16, 2026. The role required months of training and a major physical transformation as Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson prepared to bring the popular video game character to the big screen.
Balrog is one of the best-known fighters in the Street Fighter universe, recognized for his powerful boxing style. In the new film, 50 Cent steps into the role as part of an ensemble cast bringing the video game’s characters to life.
Preparing for the character meant more than learning fight choreography. In an interview with Complex, 50 Cent revealed that he trained for around three hours a day, combining boxing sessions with weight training. He said he went from 238 pounds to 200 pounds by the time filming began, a 38-pound change as he worked to match Balrog’s physical presence.
The rapper explained that he wanted to capture the character’s strength, aggression and confidence rather than copy one specific boxer. He also worked with the stunt team to develop a fighting style suited to Balrog, whose approach relies on power and overwhelming opponents.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter brings together stars from film, music and professional wrestling. Andrew Koji plays Ryu, Noah Centineo portrays Ken Masters, and Callina Liang stars as Chun-Li. The cast also includes Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma and Cody Rhodes as Guile.
The story is set in 1993, when estranged fighters Ryu and Ken are drawn back into combat after Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. What begins as a fight between skilled competitors becomes part of a larger conspiracy that forces the characters to confront their pasts.
The movie also connects 50 Cent’s acting role with his music career. He previously revealed that he had worked on a track with Eminem featuring vocals from the late Tupac Shakur, intended as a theme for the film. However, as of October 15, the track had no officially announced title or release date, so its release should not be confused with the movie’s theatrical debut.
For 50 Cent, the role adds another major film project to a career spanning rap, television production and acting. His portrayal of Balrog also brings a familiar hip-hop name into one of gaming’s most recognizable fighting franchises.
With Street Fighter now in theaters, audiences can see how 50 Cent’s training and physical transformation translate into his performance as the hard-hitting boxer. The film combines familiar video game characters with a new cast, giving fans another live-action take on the long-running franchise.
