The Crazy Rich Asians story is returning to the screen as an HBO Max original series, with Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh set to reprise their roles.

HBO Max announced the series on October 8, 2026, confirming that production will begin in 2027. The project comes from filmmaker Jon M. Chu and writer Adele Lim, who were both part of the original 2018 film.

Wu will return as Rachel Chu, Golding as Nick Young, Chieng as Eddie Cheng and Yeoh as Eleanor Young.

The new series will continue the world introduced in Crazy Rich Asians, which was based on Kevin Kwan's bestselling novel. The television project will also draw from Kwan's books as the story expands beyond the first film.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 movie, is returning as part of the creative team. Chu, who directed the original film, is also attached to the new series.

The original Crazy Rich Asians film was released in 2018 and became a major box-office success. It starred Wu, Golding, Yeoh, Chieng and Awkwafina and followed Rachel Chu as she traveled to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick Young and discovered his wealthy family background.

HBO Max has confirmed that production on the new series will begin in 2027, giving the original cast another chance to return to the story more than eight years after the first film.
