For three decades, the Ambassadors of Christ Choir has been an important part of Rwanda’s gospel music scene, using music and worship to connect generations of audiences in Rwanda and beyond.
The choir, based at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Remera, Kigali, marked its 30th anniversary with a major concert at BK Arena on August 30, 2026. Held under the theme “God Painted Our Story,” the celebration brought together thousands of worshippers and supporters for an evening centered on music, faith and the choir’s long journey.
Over the years, Ambassadors of Christ Choir has built a distinctive identity through its vocal arrangements, worship performances and music videos. Songs such as “Kwizera,” “Mwami Ganza,” “Namani,” “Tuzamuye Amashimwe” and “Ibyo Unyuramo” have become part of the group’s musical legacy.
The choir has also helped carry Rwandan gospel music beyond the country. While much of its repertoire is performed in Kinyarwanda, the group has also used languages such as Kiswahili and English to connect with wider audiences across the region.
Its story is also closely connected to Rwanda’s journey of rebuilding and hope. Established in the years following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the choir became known for music centered on faith, encouragement and hope. Its journey was later marked by a tragic road accident in Tanzania in 2011 that claimed the lives of several members and injured others.
Despite the loss, the choir continued its musical ministry, adding another chapter to a story that has now spanned three decades.
Today, Ambassadors of Christ Choir remains a recognizable name in Rwanda’s gospel music landscape. Its 30th anniversary is not only a celebration of its music, but also a reflection of the generations it has reached and the cultural and spiritual legacy it continues to build.
