For 20 years, Inganzo Ngari Cultural Troupe has used traditional dance, music and performance to promote Rwanda’s cultural heritage. Now, the Kigali-based group is preparing to celebrate that journey with a special concert at BK Arena on November 21, 2026.

Dubbed Umurage w’Intore, the concert will mark two decades since the troupe was founded in 2006. What began as a small group of young people with an interest in traditional dance has grown into a cultural organisation with more than 100 active members.

The troupe was formed by young people who wanted to bring traditional dance into the lives of a new generation. At the time, the art was often associated with older people, and some questioned why university students and other educated young people would choose to pursue it. The founders, including Serge Nahimana, wanted to challenge that view and create an organised group that could promote Rwandan culture through performance.

Over the years, Inganzo Ngari has grown beyond local performances, taking Rwandan traditional dance to international audiences. One of its notable milestones was its participation in the International Folkloric Festival of Mallorca in Spain in 2009. The group has also continued to develop cultural productions that explore Rwanda’s history and traditions.

Today, its work goes beyond performing on stage. The troupe also helps train and guide younger performers, giving them an opportunity to learn traditional dance and understand the cultural values behind it. This focus on passing knowledge to the next generation is central to the message of Umurage w’Intore.

Speaking about the anniversary concert, Nahimana, who serves as the troupe’s director and head coach, said the performance would take audiences through Rwanda’s history using traditional dance. Singer Ruti Joel has been announced as the special guest artist, while other performers are expected to be revealed later.

Tickets for Umurage w’Intore range from Rwf10,000 to Rwf400,000, depending on the seating category. The concert will take place at BK Arena on Saturday, November 21, bringing together the troupe's members, supporters and lovers of Rwandan culture to mark its 20-year journey.
