Jay Bothroyd has praised Manchester City’s move for Iliman Ndiaye, describing the reported £65 million deal as an “absolute steal” and saying Arsenal should have gone for the Senegal international.
Manchester City moved for Ndiaye late in the transfer window after Tottenham Hotspur had been in talks with Everton. The deal is reportedly worth £60 million upfront, with another £5 million possible in add-ons.
Bothroyd believes Ndiaye would have been a strong fit for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. He highlighted the forward’s work rate, pace and ability to attack from the left side as qualities that suit Arsenal’s style.
Ndiaye now joins Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, where his ability to press, move across the attack and create chances could give the champions another attacking option.
The transfer has also sparked debate among football fans. While some see Ndiaye as a bargain and believe he can become even better under Guardiola, others question whether he can secure regular playing time in City’s star-studded attack.
