Rwandan content creator Enock Uwizeye, widely known as Kagarara or Ashton Small, has officially launched his first book, Muraho, My Name Is Kagarara, at the Kigali Convention Centre.
The book tells the story of Kagarara’s life and the challenges he faced while growing up with a disability that affects his height. He says he wrote the book to share his experience and encourage other people with disabilities to believe in themselves.
Kagarara has spoken openly about the difficult experiences he faced, including being treated differently because of his disability. He recalled an incident when someone refused to share a meal with him because of his appearance.
His message is built around the phrase “Disability is not inability.” Through the book, he wants young people with disabilities to understand that having a disability does not mean they cannot have dreams, go to school or contribute to society.
Kagarara has also called on parents to support children with disabilities and make sure they receive education and the opportunity to take part in society. He said the book is not only about his own life, but also a lesson for young people and others living with disabilities.
The book launch comes after Kagarara’s growing popularity on social media. He became widely known as Kagarara before also gaining attention as Ashton Small, a name linked to his connection with American content creator Ashton Hall.
With Muraho, My Name Is Kagarara, he is now using his personal story to speak about disability, education, self-confidence and the importance of giving people equal opportunities.
