Rwandan singer Kevin Kade took the stage in Ottawa on Saturday night, September 26, as part of the “Beyond Borders” concert, bringing his music to Rwandans and other African music fans in Canada.
The concert was held at 523 St Anthony Street and brought together several Rwandan artists for a night of live music. Kevin Kade shared the stage with Element EleéeH, Nel Ngabo and DJ Brianne, with other performers also included on the event lineup.
For Kevin Kade, the show came a few days after he arrived in Canada for the concerts. He was scheduled to perform in Ottawa on September 26 before another “Beyond Borders” show in Montreal on October 3.
The Ottawa performance gave fans a chance to see some of Rwanda’s current music stars together on one stage. Nel Ngabo had arrived in Canada shortly before the show, while Element EleéeH and DJ Brianne were also in the country ahead of the event.
Kevin Kade has been active with new music in recent weeks. Before travelling to Canada, he released “So Close,” a song that had passed one million views on YouTube, according to a report published before the Ottawa concert.
The “Beyond Borders” concerts are also part of a wider push to bring Rwandan music to audiences outside the country. After Ottawa, Kevin Kade, Nel Ngabo and Element EleéeH are expected to reunite for the Montreal date on October 3.
For the artists and their fans, the Ottawa show was another opportunity to connect Rwandan music with audiences thousands of kilometres from home.
