Lil Nas X released “World’s Greatest!” on October 1, 2026, more than a year after his previous major music release. The rock-influenced song presents a more personal side of the artist, with lyrics about his journey, struggles and belief in himself.
The release is also closely connected to his late mother, Tamikia Hill, who died in August 2026. Before the song arrived, Lil Nas X shared a voicemail from his mother in which she encouraged him to keep going and have faith. Her words became an important part of the meaning behind the new song.
The music video, directed by Phillip Youmans, was filmed in Lil Nas X’s hometown of Atlanta. It moves between his present life and memories from his childhood, showing him working through a difficult dance rehearsal while scenes from his younger years appear alongside him.
The story brings his younger and older selves together, creating a picture of how far he has come. The video ends with a tribute to his mother, making the release more than just a new single.
“World’s Greatest!” also connects with an important part of Lil Nas X’s earlier music. Near the end of the video, the song references the “champions” message associated with his 2021 hit “Industry Baby.”
The new release gives fans a different look at Lil Nas X as he returns to music with a more personal and reflective song.
