Manchester City defeated Liverpool 3–0 at Anfield on Sunday, October 11, to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season. Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored after Liverpool were reduced to 10 men.
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute after receiving a second yellow card. City took advantage of the extra space, with Haaland opening the scoring in the 66th minute.
Doku doubled City's lead in the 68th minute with a powerful effort, before Cherki completed the win in the 78th minute. The three goals gave City control of a match that had remained tight before the dismissal.
The result also marked a historic achievement for City. According to the club's official match report, it was their first time winning consecutive Premier League matches at Anfield since January 1953.
The victory came amid continued attention on City's financial-rule case. On September 29, the Premier League announced that an independent commission had found the club guilty of serious financial-rule breaches and most of the charges related to its failure to cooperate with the league's investigation. City has disputed the findings and indicated it would appeal. No final sporting punishment should be treated as confirmed while the process remains unresolved.
On the pitch, the win left City top of the Premier League with 18 points from six matches, three points ahead of second-placed Arsenal. Liverpool suffered their first league defeat of the season and dropped to ninth, according to post-match reports.
City will now turn their attention to their next fixtures as they look to maintain their strong league form. For Liverpool, the defeat brings an early-season setback and leaves them looking to respond in their next match.
