Rwandan Gakondo music star Massamba Intore has released a new song, “Hoza Umwana,” accompanied by a music video on YouTube. The release brings the veteran musician back into focus as he continues his work in Rwanda’s traditional music scene.

The song credits Coach Massamba Intore as the artist, Manzi as the producer, and Bob Pro for mastering. Musafiri handled the percussion, Nabayo is credited for special vocals, and Claude directed the music video.

The title “Hoza Umwana” carries the meaning of comforting or soothing a child. Its message and cultural meaning can be explored through the song itself, giving listeners another opportunity to connect with Kinyarwanda music and expression.

Massamba Intore has spent decades promoting Gakondo, a traditional Rwandan music style closely linked to the country’s cultural identity. Born in Bujumbura, Burundi, he grew up in a family with strong musical roots. His father, Athanase Sentore Rwagiriza, was a respected traditional musician who helped shape his early musical journey.

In August 2024, Massamba celebrated 40 years in music with his “3040 Ubutore” concert at BK Arena in Kigali. The event also marked 30 years since Rwanda’s liberation, reflecting the close connection between his music, national history and cultural heritage.

Beyond his recording career, Massamba has worked as a coach and technical director with Rwanda’s National Ballet, Urukerereza, helping promote traditional music and dance. His work has also introduced Rwandan culture to audiences beyond the country.
