Netflix has made a major U-turn on Tyler Perry’s hit drama Beauty in Black, officially renewing the series for a fourth season just as Season 3 arrives on the streaming platform.
The surprise renewal comes after Netflix had previously announced that Season 3 would be the final chapter of the story surrounding Kimmie and Mallory.
The series has continued to show strong global appeal. Season 1 spent seven consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 and reached No. 1 in 28 countries. Season 2 also maintained a six-week Top 10 run and reached No. 1 in 17 countries, while recording 57.7 million hours viewed in a single seven-day period.
Season 3 also marks a change in Netflix’s release strategy. Unlike the first two seasons, which were released in two parts, all eight episodes of the new season were made available at once, giving fans the chance to binge the entire season.
Behind the scenes, Tyler Perry’s production approach has also drawn attention. Perry wrote and directed the eight-episode season, which was filmed in just six days at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
Story-wise, Season 3 raises the stakes as Kimmie, played by Taylor Polidore Williams, and Mallory, played by Crystle Stewart, are forced to put their rivalry aside following a federal raid. The two form an uneasy alliance as they face a new threat led by Jules, portrayed by Charles Malik Whitfield.
With Season 3 now streaming and Season 4 confirmed, Beauty in Black is entering a new chapter—and fans clearly have more drama to come.
