Sony Pictures Animation’s GOAT has completed its theatrical run with approximately $195 million worldwide, marking a strong performance for the animated sports comedy produced by NBA superstar Stephen Curry.

The film follows Will Harris, a young goat who dreams of competing in professional Roarball, a high-energy sport dominated by larger and stronger animals. After earning an unexpected opportunity to join the professional league, Will must prove that his size does not determine his ability.

Directed by Tyree Dillihay and co-directed by Adam Rosette, GOAT combines sports comedy with a distinctive animation style. The filmmakers use 3D computer animation alongside graffiti-inspired visual elements and changing frame rates to give the Roarball sequences a fast, energetic look.

The movie also features a notable voice cast led by Caleb McLaughlin, with Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry, David Harbour, Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll and Jennifer Hudson among the performers. Several professional athletes, including Dwyane Wade, Angel Reese and A'ja Wilson, also appear in the voice cast.

One of the film’s notable production achievements came through its use of an all-disability loop group for background crowd performances, including arena reactions and other ambient vocal elements.

After its theatrical release, GOAT moved into the home-viewing market, with the film now available through digital platforms and streaming services, including Netflix.

With its combination of basketball-inspired action, comedy and experimental animation, GOAT has given Sony Pictures Animation another distinctive entry in the growing world of animated sports films.
