Nigerian singer Tems and South African singer Tyla have both been nominated at the 2026 Soul Train Awards, earning spots in the new R&B/Soul Song of the Year category.

Tems is nominated for “What You Need,” while Tyla is in the running with “Chanel.” They are among 10 artists nominated in the category, which also includes Bruno Mars, Kehlani, Brent Faiyaz, Daniel Caesar, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Mariah the Scientist and Olivia Dean.

For the first time, fans will decide the winner of the R&B/Soul Song of the Year award through voting.

Tems has also received a nomination in the new Spotify RNB X International Artist category. The category is also decided by fans, making Tems the only artist named in both of the new fan-voted categories, according to the awards announcement.

The 2026 Soul Train Awards are scheduled to take place on November 27 in Chicago, with comedian and actor Anthony Anderson set to host the ceremony.

Fans can vote in the R&B/Soul Song of the Year category through BET's voting platform. Voting for the new categories closes on October 16, 2026.

For Tems and Tyla, the nominations add another major recognition to their growing presence in R&B and global music, while giving fans a chance to decide which song takes the new award.
