Long before Davido became one of Africa’s biggest music stars, he was simply David Adedeji Adeleke, a child born into a powerful Nigerian business family. And even before he understood what business, fame or music meant, there was already a billionaire businessman who had a connection with his family.

That man was Aliko Dangote.

Davido recently shared a story that showed just how far their relationship goes. He revealed that when he was born, Dangote was already close to his family. After Davido’s mother gave birth to him, Dangote drove her home from the hospital.

For Davido, this was not a friendship that started after he became famous. It was a relationship that was already there from the beginning of his life.

The refinery then became the center of a major financial moment in Nigeria. Its initial public offering opened on September 14, 2026, offering 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 each, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares.

And then, the story that began with a baby being taken home from the hospital reached New York.

On September 22, 2026, Davido joined Dangote in Times Square, where a huge Nasdaq digital billboard displayed the Dangote refinery message, “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World.”

The two men stood together beneath the massive screen as people around them recorded the moment.

But there was more to the moment than a photograph.

Davido asked Dangote why Nigerians should buy shares in the refinery. Dangote explained that allowing more people to own part of the business could help spread wealth and prosperity across Africa. He also said similar plans could be used for other businesses in the future.

For anyone seeing Davido and Dangote together in Times Square, it may have looked like a meeting between a famous musician and a billionaire businessman.

But their story started much earlier.
