South African singer Tyla has partnered with Epic Records to launch the That Girl Music Scholarship, an initiative supporting 10 women pursuing music and arts-related degrees. Each selected student will receive $5,000 to help cover education costs.
Named after “THAT GIRL,” a song from her second studio album, APOP*, the scholarship is designed to support students who demonstrate financial need and academic excellence. The programme is a partnership involving Tyla, Epic Records and the Institute of International Education (IIE).
Six scholarships will go to eligible students studying near selected tour markets in the United States: New York, Washington, D.C., Tampa, Atlanta, Houston and Los Angeles. The remaining four awards are reserved for students in Tyla’s home country, South Africa. Students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States will receive priority consideration.
Beyond the financial award, each recipient will receive two tickets to a Tyla concert and an opportunity to meet the singer. The scholarship is intended to help students pursue their education, although the $5,000 award is not designed to cover all tuition and other expenses.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and meet the programme’s full-time undergraduate study requirements. They must be pursuing a music or arts-related degree at an eligible institution and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. US applicants must also provide financial aid information to demonstrate financial need. South African applicants may qualify if they are already enrolled or are Grade 12 students planning to begin an eligible degree programme in 2027.
Applications must be submitted in English and include an online form, a personal statement, a recent academic transcript, an estimate of tuition and mandatory fees, and a self-introduction video of no more than 30 seconds. US applicants must also provide their financial aid package information.
The deadline is October 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, or earlier if 50 eligible applications are received. Applicants should therefore check the official requirements and submit their applications as soon as possible. The IIE also states that application materials must reflect the applicant’s own work and that AI-generated content is not permitted in submissions.
Students can review the eligibility requirements and apply through the official Tyla That Girl Music Scholarship website.
