Wizkid’s documentary Long Live Lagos has reportedly been submitted for consideration in the Best Music Film category at the 69th Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 2027.
Directed by Karam Gill and distributed by HBO Documentary Films, the 83-minute documentary follows the Nigerian singer’s journey from Lagos to international success, leading up to his major performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The film explores Wizkid’s rise as a global music star and the wider growth of Afrobeats. It also examines how African music can influence global culture and challenge perceptions of African identity.
Long Live Lagos features contributions from several cultural figures, including Femi Kuti, Jada Pollock and Julie Adenuga. Their perspectives help place Wizkid’s career within the wider story of Nigerian creativity and the growing international reach of African music.
The documentary premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Festival and later became part of HBO’s Music Box documentary series. Its story combines moments from Wizkid’s personal journey with the preparation and anticipation surrounding his London stadium performance.
The reported Grammy submission would put the documentary in consideration for one of the Recording Academy’s music-film honours. However, a submission does not guarantee a nomination, and the reported entry has not been independently confirmed by the Recording Academy.
The nominees for the 69th Annual Grammy Awards are scheduled to be announced on November 16, 2026, with the ceremony set for February 7, 2027.
