Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has teamed up with Instagram’s Design team to bring the creative world of her album STARRGIRL to the Edits app through a custom video filter available globally.

The “Starrgirl” filter features a purple glow inspired by the album’s visual identity, giving fans a new way to bring the energy of the project into their own videos. It is available exclusively in the Edits app, where users can find it pinned at the top of the filter tray.

According to Instagram, the filter was developed after its design team spent time exploring the creative world Ayra built around STARRGIRL. The team worked alongside the singer and her collaborators to create an effect that reflects the album’s distinctive style.

“Starrgirl started as a passage Ayra wrote,” Instagram explained, describing how the idea grew into a wider creative project shaped by a team of artists and visual creatives.

Among the collaborators was Rudy, who developed the creative bible that helped translate Ayra’s vision into a shared direction for the project. Photographer Axle Jozéph shot the album cover, which features Ayra wearing a purple gele. Melkiaur directed the music video for “Tornado,” while Michael Junioro also contributed to the creative journey behind the album’s visual world.

The new filter extends that work into a space where fans can participate in the STARRGIRL era themselves. Whether creating a video or sharing a casual clip with friends, users can add the effect to bring the project’s purple-toned aesthetic into their content.

Ayra Starr described the filter as a continuation of the album’s era, expressing hope that it would help people feel the energy behind STARRGIRL.

The launch also offers fans a chance to connect with the singer beyond listening to her music. As part of the wider campaign, Ayra has said she will select some of her favourite videos made with the filter to feature on her official Instagram profile for a limited time.

With the collaboration, Ayra Starr and Instagram are extending STARRGIRL beyond music into digital creativity, allowing fans to take part in the visual identity that she and her creative team have developed.
