Netflix has released the first trailer for Steps, a new animated movie that gives Cinderella’s stepsisters a different story.
The film follows Lilith, voiced by Ali Wong, and her sister Margot, voiced by Stephanie Hsu. Instead of showing the sisters only as Cinderella’s enemies, Steps tells the story from their side.
The movie is set to arrive on Netflix on November 20, 2026.
In the story, Lilith is tired of living in the shadow of Cinderella. She wants her sister Margot to have a chance to shine, so she takes the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and goes to the royal ball.
But things quickly go wrong.
Lilith accidentally turns Margot into a frog. The chaos also gives Priscilla, voiced by Nikki Glaser, a chance to take control of the kingdom.
Lilith must then work with Cinderella, voiced by Amanda Seyfried, to fix the situation and save the kingdom.
The voice cast also includes Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother, Daniel Radcliffe as the Prince, Peter Dinklage as Roderick, Young Mazino as Gef and WWE star Damian Priest as Cracktor.
Steps is directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa. Amy Poehler is one of the film's producers.
The movie also features music from composer Kris Bowers. The project was originally developed as a musical, but the filmmakers later changed the direction of the movie.
Steps is part of Netflix's growing animation lineup and gives a well-known fairy tale a new point of view. The first trailer gives fans a look at the colorful world, comedy and magical problems that the stepsisters will face.
Netflix will release Steps worldwide on November 20, 2026.
