Universal Studios Hollywood has officially opened its new “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” roller coaster, bringing a new high-speed attraction inspired by the popular Fast & Furious movie franchise.
The ride opened to the public on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. It is Universal Studios Hollywood’s first outdoor, high-speed roller coaster and is now the fastest coaster across Universal’s theme parks.
The coaster reaches speeds of up to 72 mph (116 km/h) and runs across about 4,100 feet (1,250 meters) of track. Riders can also experience forces of up to 3.6 Gs during the ride.
One of the main features is the ride’s drifting system. The cars can rotate up to 360 degrees while moving along the track, giving riders a feeling similar to drifting in a high-speed car.
The ride also includes four launches and moves above and below parts of the park’s multi-level Starway escalator.
The ride vehicles are designed to look like cars from the Fast & Furious films, including the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra. Each vehicle also has its own engine and sound effects.
Universal said the attraction was designed to bring the speed and action of the Fast & Furious films into a real-life ride experience. The franchise has become one of Universal Pictures’ biggest movie series, with more than $7 billion in worldwide box office earnings.
The coaster is located on the Upper Lot at Universal Studios Hollywood and uses the natural hillside of the park as part of its design. The track also includes sound-reduction technology.
“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” is now open to visitors at Universal Studios Hollywood in California, giving fans of the movie franchise a new way to experience the world of high-speed racing and drifting.
