Arsenal started the 2026/27 Premier League season with four wins from four games after beating Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The win also gave Arsenal a rare record. The Gunners have now won their first four Premier League games of a season for the fourth time.
Arsenal previously achieved the same start in the 2003/04, 2004/05 and 2022/23 seasons.
The game against Sunderland was not easy for Mikel Arteta's team. Sunderland were awarded a penalty in the second half, but Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya saved Enzo Le Fée's effort.
Raya's save proved important. Just two minutes later, Bruno Guimarães scored to give Arsenal the lead.
Bukayo Saka then scored from the penalty spot late in the game to give Arsenal a 2-0 victory.
After the match, Arteta was unhappy with the penalty given to Sunderland. The Arsenal manager said he had watched the incident many times and did not agree with the referee's decision.
Arteta said decisions like that could have a big effect on a team's season and even the Premier League title race.
Despite his anger over the penalty, Arteta praised Sunderland for making the game difficult for Arsenal.
The victory keeps Arsenal at the top of the Premier League after four matches. It is also another strong start for Arteta's team as they look to challenge for another league title.
Arsenal will now look to continue their perfect start when they play their next Premier League match.
