British singer Jorja Smith opened the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony in London with a live performance of her song “Blue Lights.” The performance took place on October 26 at the London Palladium, where football stars and other guests gathered for the 70th edition of the awards.
The song was a fitting choice for the occasion as it marks 10 years since “Blue Lights” was released in 2016. The track helped introduce Smith to a wider audience and became one of the key songs in her early career.
Known for her blend of R&B, soul and jazz influences, Smith brought music to an evening focused on celebrating football’s leading players and achievements. Her performance was part of the entertainment planned for this year’s ceremony, alongside an appearance by rapper French Montana.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony was held in London for the first time in the award’s history. Organisers chose the city to mark the 70th anniversary of the award and honour Sir Stanley Matthews, who became the first Ballon d’Or winner in 1956.
Smith’s appearance brought together British music and international football at one of the sport’s most recognised award ceremonies. Her performance of “Blue Lights” also gave the event a musical connection to a song that helped shape her career.
