Burundi has joined Tanzania in mourning the death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye said he received the news with profound sorrow and offered his condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.
In his message, Ndayishimiye said Burundi stands firmly beside its Tanzanian brothers and sisters during this period of grief. He also called for strength and comfort for President Samia and her family as they deal with the loss.
The Burundian president prayed that God would grant eternal rest to Hafidh Ameir Hassan and give his loved ones the strength to go through the difficult moment.
Hafidh Ameir was widely known as the husband of President Samia and made history as Tanzania’s first male presidential spouse after Samia became the country’s first female president in 2021.
President Ndayishimiye’s message reflects the strong ties between Burundi and Tanzania, with Burundi standing alongside its neighbour as Tanzanians mourn a prominent member of the First Family.
