Formula 1 has announced its 2027 calendar, with Bahrain set to host the opening race and a record 10 Sprint events planned across the season.
The 2027 championship will feature 24 Grands Prix across five continents. The season will begin in Bahrain before moving to Saudi Arabia and then Australia.
The Bahrain Grand Prix will take place from March 12–14 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. Bahrain will also host a Sprint event during the opening weekend.
The biggest change to the calendar is the increase in Sprint weekends from six in 2026 to 10 in 2027. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar and Abu Dhabi will host the Sprint races.
The 2027 season will also see the return of the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimão and the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park. The Dutch Grand Prix will leave the calendar, while the Belgian and Spanish Grands Prix will rotate between seasons.
The Sprint format gives fans an extra competitive race during selected Grand Prix weekends, with drivers also able to score championship points.
The season will finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, bringing the 24-race championship to a close.
Formula 1 said the new calendar was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council and is designed to bring more action to race weekends while continuing to visit major markets around the world.
