President Paul Kagame has sent his condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, her family and the people of Tanzania following the death of H.E. Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the President’s husband.
In a message shared on Monday, President Kagame described President Samia as his sister and expressed his sincere condolences to her family and the people of Tanzania during the period of mourning.
President Kagame also said that the Government and people of Rwanda stand in solidarity with Tanzania as the country honours the life and legacy of Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Hafidh Ameir Hassan died on Monday, September 7, 2026. He was the husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and became Tanzania’s first male presidential spouse when she became the country’s first female president in 2021.
His death has led to messages of condolences from across the region, with leaders and citizens joining Tanzania in mourning his passing.
President Kagame’s message highlights the close ties between Rwanda and Tanzania, as Rwanda stands with the Tanzanian people and President Samia during this difficult time.
Hafidh Ameir Hassan will be remembered for his role as President Samia’s husband, as well as for his professional career in agriculture and his quiet support of his family.
