Prosecutors have asked the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court to sentence Rwandan singer Yampano, real name Uworizagwira Florien, to seven years and 11 months in prison and impose a fine of RWF 800,000.
The singer faces five charges, including assault, threats, property damage, cannabis use and discrimination. He admitted to three charges but denied making threats and discriminatory remarks against Tutsis.
His lawyer asked the court for a lighter sentence, citing his admission of some offences, treatment for cannabis use and reported reconciliation with his partner.
Yampano asked the court to acquit him of the two charges he denied. The court is expected to deliver its judgment on December 16, 2026.
