The UEFA Champions League returned with a thrilling opening night as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Dortmund, Aston Villa and Real Betis all claimed important victories.

Europe’s biggest club competition delivered plenty of action on Tuesday night, with six matches producing goals, comebacks and late drama.

Real Madrid started their campaign with a 2–1 win over Inter Milan, while Manchester City made a strong statement away from home with a 2–0 victory against Porto.

There was also a dramatic night for Aston Villa, who defeated Club Brugge 3–2 in Belgium. Real Betis produced another exciting away win, beating Lille 3–2 in France.

Borussia Dortmund also picked up three points with a 3–2 victory over Villarreal, while AEK Athens opened their campaign with a narrow 1–0 win against LASK.

With the first night already producing plenty of talking points, the Champions League continues on Wednesday with another big lineup of matches, including Barcelona vs Feyenoord, Liverpool vs Atlético Madrid and Napoli vs Arsenal.
